What's the secret of happiness?

The secret to happiness is neither to accept yourself nor to treasure what you have in your life. Why? Because both of those strategies are just vague, unspecific suggestions.

Just how are you supposed to appreciate what you have? You can try. You can even repeat over and over to yourself, "I appreciate all that I have. I am happy." And nothing will happen. The same is true for accepting yourself.

It is not possible to simply absorb happiness from your surroundings or from yourself. Happiness is not found by appreciating what you have but by ridding yourself of what you have.

Give without counting the cost. You just bought a new car? Give it away. You just got a raise? Give away every cent of it. You think you're really smart? Fail a test on purpose. It is only in giving of ourselves that we can feel the thrill of happiness.
